The Managers of the Perrott-Warrick fund, administered by Trinity College, Cambridge, invite applications for the position of Perrott-Warrick Senior Researcher to investigate full-time in the UK mental or physical phenomena which seem to suggest (i) the existence of supernormal powers of cognition or action in human beings in their present life, or (ii) the persistence of the human mind after bodily death. Candidates should hold a doctorate or have a record of published research in a discipline relevant to their proposed project, and will normally have experience in the methodology, critical appraisal and statistical approach to normal and paranormal cognition. However, the appointment is open to persons from a wide range of academic disciplines who wish to pursue a rational scientific approach to these matters and need not necessarily be experimental.
The appointment will be for a period of three years in the first instance, subject to the receipt of satisfactory annual progress reports, with possible renewal for a further two years. It will commence during the academic year beginning October 2024 at a time to be arranged with the successful candidate. The stipend will be on the University of Cambridge Lecturer scale (£40,521 rising to £54,395), starting at a point fixed according to age and qualifications, although the appointment need not be held at Cambridge. Some additional funding for research expenses necessary for the project may be available.
Applications should include a plan for the research which the candidate proposes to pursue, a curriculum vitae, the names and contact details of three referees, and particulars of the facilities available or needed to carry out the research. They should be sent to Prof. Bernard Carr to arrive not later than 31July 2024. If possible, they should be sent electronically to B.J.Carr@qmul.ac.uk. Otherwise, a hard copy should be posted to: Prof. Bernard Carr, Perrott-Warrick Secretary, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Queen Mary College, Mile End Road, London E1 4NS, England. It is anticipated that a short-list of candidates will be interviewed in August.
