1965 Licenciado Degree (Biology), University of Madrid.
1965-1969 Scholarship holder at Delta Primate Research Center (USA), under Prof. Hans Kummer and Prof. William A. Mason, working on social organización and communication of gelada baboons and squirrel monkeys.
1969 Ph.D., Tulane University of New Orleans. Social organization and sex hormones in squirrel monkeys. Ph.D. supervisors: Prof. William A. Mason and Prof. Clyde Jones.
1970-2012 Researcher, and then Professor of Research, at Estación Biológica de Doñana (CSIC, Spain), doing field work on behaviour of birds and mammals in Spain, Morocco and South America.
1970-1976 Lecturer in Comparative Anatomy of Vertebrates and Ethology at University of Seville, and in Animal Behaviour at University of Córdoba and University of Madrid.
1970-2012 PhD supervisor at universities of Seville, Granada, Madrid, Tenerife and Oviedo.
1979-1985 Deputy Director of Estación Biológica de Doñana (CSIC).
