New Thinking Allowed

When I record video conversations with members of the P.A. for the New Thinking Allowed channel on YouTube, I also post here. Many other interviews, relevant to parapsychology, with non-members can be viewed at www.newthinkingallowed.com

Macro-Psychokinesis, Part One: Physical Mediumship with Stephen E. Braude

Stephen Braude, PhD, served as chairman of the philosophy department at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He has also served as president of the Parapsychological Association. He is author of Crimes of Reason, The Gold Leaf Lady, Immortal Remains, The Limits of Influence, First Person Plural, and ESP and Psychokinesis. He is the recent recipient of the prestigious Myers Memorial Medal awarded by the Society for Psychical Research for outstanding contributions.

Here he discussed large-scale psychokinetic phenomena, typically observed during séances in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These phenomena included table rapping, table levitation, human levitation, apports and materializations. Of particular interest is the case of Daniel Dunglas Home, perhaps the greatest spiritualist medium known in history, who produced such phenomena consistently for a period of twenty-five years. Another well-attested case of human levitation is that of the Catholic saint, Joseph of Cupertino. Braude takes issues with those who believe that the reports of such phenomena are untrustworthy.

New Thinking Allowed host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). He serves as dean of transformational psychology at the University of Philosophical Research. He teaches parapsychology for ministers in training with the Centers for Spiritual Living through the Holmes Institute. He has served as vice-president of the Association for Humanistic Psychology, and is the recipient of its Pathfinder Award for outstanding contributions to the field of human consciousness. He is also past-president of the non-profit Intuition Network, an organization dedicated to creating a world in which all people are encouraged to cultivate and apply their inner, intuitive abilities.

Remote Viewing Training, Part Two: The Advanced Phases, with Paul H. Smith

Paul H. Smith, PhD, is a founder and past-president of the International Remote Viewing Association. A former Army intelligence officer, he served for seven years as part of the military’s top-secret remote viewing program. He is author of Reading the Enemy’s Mind and The Essential Guide to Remote Viewing. He currently serves as president and chief trainer for Remote Viewing Instructional Services.

Here he presents some advanced methods used to gather more detailed information about the remote viewing target. He notes that while remote perception is not really a sensory process it appears as such within the human mind. A variety of exercises can be used to acquire a better sense of the target’s ambiance and purpose. In the most advanced stages, remote viewers engage kinesthetically with the target and may even use modeling clay to create three-dimensional images. These advanced stages of training are associated with a style known as “controlled remote viewing” or CRV.

Remote Viewing Training, Part One: The Initial Phases, with Paul H. Smith

Here he describes how he was recruited into the Army’s remote viewing program, although he had no previous experience of a parapsychological nature. He discusses the early phases of his training with Ingo Swann and Hal Puthoff at SRI International. He argues that remote viewing is an ability that everyone possesses. But, most people are unaware of this talent because the subtle, paranormal signal is usually drowned out by mental noise. He maintains that people can be trained to distinguish this signal from background mental and emotional activity. He discusses how his own training proceeded through various stages over a period of many months. The elements of this training are based on research regarding acquisition of other human skills such as language and music.

Cultivating Psychokinesis, Part Two: The Energy of the Group, with Joseph Gallenberger, PhD

Joseph Gallenberger, PhD, is a clinical psychologist. He is author of Inner Vegas: Creating Abundance, Miracles, and Health and Liquid Luck: The Good Fortune Handbook. He is a senior trainer with the Monroe Institute near Charlottesville, Virginia.

Here he describes how he began to bring groups of individuals to Las Vegas to experience the possibilities of training psychokinesis in a casino setting. He discovered that individuals could encourage, support, and reinforce each other in ways that an individual alone could not do. He describes in some detail various exercises he used with the groups to help people put aside their doubts and reservations and enter into an expanded state of awareness
