InPresence 0009: The Roots of Consciousness with Jeffrey Mishlove

InPresence host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). For many years he served as president of the non-profit Intuition Network, an organization dedicated to creating a world in which all people were supported and encouraged in developing inner intuitive abilities.

Here he describes how he came to write his first book, The Roots of Consciousness. The book is an overview of the field of consciousness studies and parapsychology and was originally intended to show to his doctoral committee at U.C., Berkeley, that he had the prerequisite knowledge to write a parapsychological dissertation. The book also contained important ideas concerning the possible role of Bell's Theorem in understanding psychic functioning. At the end of the video is a hot link to a free, online version of the 2nd edition of the book.

InPresence 0008: My Hero William James with Jeffrey Mishlove

InPresence host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). For many years he served as president of the non-profit Intuition Network, an organization dedicated to creating a world in which all people were supported and encouraged in developing inner intuitive abilities.

Here he shares his fascination for and resonance with William James. James is widely regarded as the father of both American psychology and religious studies. Additionally he is regarded as a major philosopher and one of the founders of the American school of pragmatic philosophy. Furthermore, he was deeply engaged in psychical research and the quest to understand the possibility of survival after death. James overcame both depression and illness to achieve greatness.

InPresence 0006: Blocks to Psychic Functioning with Jeffrey Mishlove

InPresence host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). For many years he served as president of the non-profit Intuition Network, an organization dedicated to creating a world in which all people were supported and encouraged in developing inner intuitive abilities.

Here he describes the paradox that, while parapsychologists have discovered no method for shielding against psychic functioning, it still seems to be a relatively erratic and unreliable ability. Mental agitation blocks ESP reception. He describes psychological dynamics that interfere with psychic functioning, including the fear of being overwhelmed by the pain of the world. He suggests that awareness of these dynamics is the first step in addressing them.

InPresence 0007: My Great Uncle Harry with Jeffrey Mishlove

InPresence host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). For many years he served as president of the non-profit Intuition Network, an organization dedicated to creating a world in which all people were supported and encouraged in developing inner intuitive abilities.

Here he shares one of the most powerful, profound, and transformational experiences of his life -- a dream in which his great uncle appeared to him at the time of his death. The dream felt more real than normal waking reality, and Jeffrey awoke from it both crying and singing a sacred song from Jewish liturgy. When he asked various professors their opinion of such an experience, Jeffrey realized that they had nothing intelligent to say at all. It was then that he resolved to become an expert himself in these matters.

Behavioral Signs of Reincarnation with James G. Matlock

James G. Matlock, PhD, an anthropologist, is coauthor (with Erlendur Haraldsson) of I Saw a Light and Came Here: Children's Experiences of Reincarnation. He is a regular contributor to the online Psi Encyclopedia sponsored by the Society for Psychical Research in London. He has authored dozens of academic papers concerning reincarnation and related areas.

Here he provides many examples of behavioral patterns that accompany past-life memories. These patterns bear some resemblance to those that are occasionally reported among heart transplant patients. They include unexpected talents, as well as various phobias, affections, and attractions. Matlock argues that such "behavioral memories" are not readily explained by the living agent psi hypothesis.

Creativity, Spiritual Epiphany, and Psychic Functioning with Stephan A. Schwartz

Stephan A. Schwartz is a Distinguished Consulting Faculty of Saybrook University. He is the columnist for the journal Explore, and editor of the daily web publication Schwartzreport.net in both of which he covers trends that are affecting the future. His other academic and research appointments include: Senior Fellow for Brain, Mind and Healing of the Samueli Institute; founder and Research Director of the Mobius laboratory. Government appointments include Special Assistant for Research and Analysis to the Chief of Naval Operations. Schwartz was the principal researcher studying the use of Remote Viewing in archaeology. Using Remote Viewing he discovered Cleopatra's Palace, Marc Antony's Timonium, ruins of the Lighthouse of Pharos, and sunken ships along the California coast, and in the Bahamas. He is the author of more than 130 technical reports and papers. He has written The Secret Vaults of Time, The Alexandria Project, Mind Rover, Opening to the Infinite, and The 8 Laws of Change.

This is the last of 24 videos with Stephan A. Schwartz. Here he proposes that nonlocal consciousness, a timeless time and a spaceless space, is the source of great creative genius, spiritual awareness, and remote viewing (as well as other forms of psychic functioning). He maintains that a high IQ, by itself, is insufficient to explain the creative breakthroughs. Genius can only manifest itself when the culture is ready and receptive. Schwartz provides some instructions for entering into a state of nonlocal awareness.

Alternative Explanations for Reincarnation Evidence with James G. Matlock

Here he notes that alternative explanations for the reincarnation evidence based on the memories reported by young children have come from both within and without the parapsychological community. Explanations that involve some form of psi include "archetypal synchronistic resonance" and "living agent psi". Explanations offered by outsiders primarily focus on error and fraud. Matlock urges all critics to pay close attention to the details of the case reports.

Patterns Found in Reincarnation Cases with James G. Matlock

Here he describes the major findings gleaned from the database initiated by Ian Stevenson at the University of Virginia. This data focuses on young children who report spontaneous memories of having a previous life. Some 2,500 cases of this type are now in a computer database. Approximately 1,700 of these cases have been "solved" – meaning that the identity of the previous person has been corroborated, base on the child's statements. Many distinct patterns exist in this data related to both the young child and the previous personality.

Here he describes the founding of the Society for the Anthropology of Consciousness. He also notes that anthropological views concerning shamanism have changed over the past century. While still controversial, more anthropologists are willing to take the claims of shamans more seriously. Anthropologists are also starting to use non-local methods of perception, such as dowsing, in their own fieldwork. Schwartz also shares his views on spirit guides, deities, and other-worldly helpers
